Akce se koná ve středu 18. prosince 2019 v 18:00 v kavárně Liberál, Hermanova 6, Praha – Holešovice (mapa). Po diskusi bude promítnut dokumentární film StripLife (Itálie 2013, 63 min.) s českými titulky, který dává nahlédnout do reality života blokádou sužovaného Pásma Gazy. Pracovním jazykem angličtina. Třicetiletý Ahmed Abu Artema je palestinský autor a lidskoprávní aktivista. Jeho rodiče byli vyhnáni v roce 1948 se vznikem Izraele z oblasti města Ramle, jež bylo ve své většině etnicky vyčištěno. Ahmed Abu Artema se narodil v roce 1984 ve městě Rafah, rozděleném mezi Gazu a Egypt, kde nyní žije se svou ženou a dětmi. Přispívá do The New York Times, The Nation a The Journal of Palestine Studies. Vystoupil v několika dokumentárních snímcích, které produkovala televize Al-Jazeera, jako např. Which Rafah Are You From? (2014) či Gaza: Between Fire and Sea (2018).
Ahmed Abu Artema je příznivcem jednostátního řešení, ke kterému říká: „Ano, podporuji jeden demokratický stát, v němž by se všichni obyvatelé těšili lidským právům a rovnosti před zákonem. Je to mnohem lepší než kultura, která má za cíl eliminaci jednoho druhým. Takové řešení není jednoduché, protože izraelská vláda je rasistická. Nicméně je to morálně a dokonce i ekonomicky správný model, o který stojí za to usilovat. Posilování naděje v srdcích lidí a šíření kultury dialogu nás přiblíží k alternativě, která se již uplatnila v Jihoafrické republice.“

Ahmed Abu Artema is a Palestinian writer and activist who believes in civil nonviolent struggle to achieve justice, freedom, and equality. Ahmed’s family was expelled from their home in the Ramle district in 1948, and he was born in 1984 in Rafah, Gaza, where he now lives with his wife and four children.
As an independent journalist in Gaza, he has written for dozens of publications (and in English in several U.S. publications The New York Times, the Nation, and the Journal of Palestine Studies) and authored a book in Arabic called “Organized Chaos.” He has also contributed to several documentaries, including the Al Jazeera film “Which Rafah Are You From?” about the tragic separation of Rafah following the Camp David Accords and its impact of displacing thousands of families, including his own.
In 2018 he was featured in a documentary film by Karim Shah produced by Al Jazeera news network, “Gaza: Between Fire and Sea.”
