On the ground in Israel and the West Bank: reflections of the last month and half
The attack of Hamas on the 7th of October had further escalated the violence in Gaza has deeply affected Israeli society and the Palestinians living in the West Bank.
As the ongoing indiscriminate bombardment of Gaza continues there is no possibility to connect with people from Gaza. However we will have a chance to listen to a critical voice from Israel to reflect how the Israeli society reacts to the genocidal campaign towards Gaza, the deal to release Israeli hostages and the investigation of the massacre by Hamas. Jeff Halper is an Israeli anthropologist, author, lecturer, and political activist. He is the Director of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD) and a co-founder of The One Democratic State Campaign (ODSC). He is a Jewish Israeli.
More than 80 % of civilians in Gaza are refugees. Ahmad Al-Bazz has spent over six months touring around and documenting the 500 Palestinian villages across Mandatory Palestine that were depopulated during the Nakba in 1948 and subsequently destroyed by the Israeli government. Some of these villages used to be homes of people from Gaza. Ahmad will share with us pictures and his findings. Ahmad is a Palestinian independent journalist, photographer and documentary filmmaker focusing on Palestinian-Israeli affairs. Since 2012, he has been a member of the Activestills documentary photography collective.
Since 7th of October the violence is hugely on the rise in the occupied West Bank. Israeli army killed at least 200 people there, including 52 children. For more than 40 days now, since the Hamas attack on Israel, 11 Palestinian neighbourhoods within Hebron/Al Khalil – comprising about 750 families – have been under one of the harshest lockdowns imposed on the area for more than 20 years. We will connect with Izzat Karake, Palestinian resident and activist from the West Bank. Izzat is an activist from Youth Against settlements. Youth against Settlements is a Palestinian activist group based in Hebron. It organises actions against the Israeli occupation of Palestine through non-violent popular struggle and civil disobedience. Her experience from Ramallah will also share Manar Al-Tal. Manar is an independent Palestinian journalist and documentary filmmaker.
The discussions will take place separately with each participant via skype and will be held in English. Simultaneous translation to Czech possible for those who would need it.
Přímo z Izraele a ze Západního břehu Jordánu: reflexe posledního měsíce a půl
Útok Hamásu ze 7. října, který odstartoval současnou eskalaci násilí v Gaze, hluboce zasáhl izraelskou společnost i Palestince žijící na Západním břehu Jordánu.
Vzhledem k pokračujícímu plošnému bombardování Gazy není možné se s lidmi z Gazy spojit. Budeme však mít možnost poslechnout si kritický hlas z Izraele, který bude reflektovat, jak izraelská společnost reaguje na genocidní kampaň vůči Gaze, dohodu o propuštění izraelských rukojmích a vyšetřování masakru ze strany Hamásu. Jeff Halper je izraelský antropolog, autor, přednášející a politický aktivista. Je ředitelem Izraelského výboru proti demolicím domů (ICAHD) a spoluzakladatelem kampaně Jeden demokratický stát (ODSC). Je izraelský Žid.

Od 7. října se nesmírně stupňuje násilí i na okupovaném Západním břehu Jordánu. Izraelská armáda zde zabila nejméně 200 lidí, včetně 52 dětí. Již více než 40 dní od útoku Hamásu na Izrael je 11 palestinských čtvrtí v Hebronu/Al Chalílu – čítajících asi 750 rodin – pod jedním z nejtvrdších lockdownů, které byly v oblasti zavedeny za více než 20 let. Spojíme se s Izzatem Karake, palestinským obyvatelem a aktivistou ze Západního břehu Jordánu. Izzat je aktivistou organizace Mládež proti osadám. Mládež proti osadám je palestinská aktivistická skupina se sídlem v Hebronu. Organizuje akce proti izraelské okupaci Palestiny prostřednictvím nenásilného boje a občanské neposlušnosti. O zkušenosti z Ramallahu a ze své práce novinářky se s námi podělí taky Manar Al-Tal. Manar je nezávislá palestinská novinářka a dokumentaristka.
Diskuse budou probíhat s každým účastníkem zvlášť prostřednictvím skype a budou vedeny v angličtině. Pro ty, kteří by to potřebovali, je možný simultánní překlad do češtiny.
